Nothing leaves your browser.
Summon has no backend, no account and no analytics. Everything it does happens on your machine. This page explains exactly what that means.
What Summon can access
To do its job, Summon reads a few things through Chrome’s own extension APIs, entirely on your computer:
- Open tabs — titles and URLs, so it can search and switch between them.
- Bookmarks — so it can filter and open them from any folder.
- Browsing history — so it can search pages you’ve visited.
- Recently-closed tabs — so it can reopen the last one you closed.
This data is read into memory the moment you summon the palette, used to build the list you see, and discarded when the palette closes. It is never written to a file, uploaded, or shared.
Where your data goes
Nowhere. There is no Summon server. There is no cloud sync, no remote database, and no third party that receives your information. Because there is no backend at all, there is simply nothing for your data to be sent to.
Why the permissions
Chrome asks you to approve permissions for tabs, bookmarks and history when you install Summon. Those permissions are the product: they are the exact APIs Summon searches. Granting them lets Summon read that information locally — it does not grant anyone else access, and nothing is transmitted as a result.
What’s stored on your device
Summon keeps your own preferences in your browser’s local storage: your chosen keyboard shortcut, light/dark theme preference, and behavior options such as open-in-new-tab. This never leaves your machine and is removed if you uninstall the extension.
No analytics, no tracking
Summon does not include any analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or advertising code. We do not count installs from inside the extension, build usage profiles, or set tracking identifiers.
Third-party services
Summon has no third-party integrations. When you run a web search or type a URL, Summon simply hands the query to your own default search engine or navigates to the address — the same as typing it in the address bar. Summon is not an intermediary and receives nothing back.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published here with a new date at the top. Because Summon collects nothing, we don’t anticipate material changes — but we’ll always be transparent if they happen.
